Is The Ocean

The world’s largest landfill is located in the Northern Pacific ocean, in an area of slow moving sea currents called the North Pacific Subtropical Gyre. It is an oceanic desert, its denizens phytoplanktons but scarce other marine life. Far away from the world’s shipping lanes, its chief ‘flora’ is the massive mass of floating detritus. The size of this mass believe it or not equivalent to that of the continental United States.

FOLKS SAVE ENERGY - USE A PRESSURE COOKER -

Cooking times can be reduced by a factor of three or four. For example, shredded cabbage is cooked in one minute, fresh green beans take about five as do potatoes.

This increase in speed means that much less fuel is used to cook a meal. Plus, pressure cookers tend to be more hygienic than other cooking methods and help the food to retain all its nutrients.

Every one of us does things in the course of a day that adversely affect the health of the planet.

We don’t decide to, we just don’t give it a thought.

Surprising, though, how many habitual practices we can – and do – change once we give them some thought.
We can all name environmental habits we’ve changed and more we intend to.

This has to be done, and more often by more of us.

So this is our bit. Comments on what we see and do along with my friends, colleagues and surf buddies. Not to preach. Just to examine.
